Getting Creative With Your Angel Cookie Cutter
[info]brettbrock1896

Have you noticed that you have an angel cookie cutter and a number of others just sitting around in your kitchen drawers just taking up space?  Is it really worth having them take up that space if you’re only using them once a year?  It would be nice if you could use them for some purpose other than baking. The following tips can help you get a little more use out of that angel cookie cutter that has been collecting dust in your kitchen.

ANGEL COOKIE CUTTER

One thing that you could use your angel cookie cutter for is decorating your kitchen.  These items are typically made from metal, unless you go with the cheap versions, in which case they are made out of plastic.  The metal versions can be very antique looking so if you enjoy collecting antiques in general, then the cookie cutter that you’ve had sitting in your kitchen drawer all year long would actually make a very handsome decoration for your window sill, kitchen shelf, or wherever you think it would look best.  Perhaps you might consider putting one on your fireplace mantle or living room end table.  Essentially any place in your home where it would look good would be a good candidate.

You could also use the angel cookie cutter as a gift decoration.  When combined with a plain colored wrapping paper and a string type bow, the angel cookie cutter could make the perfect dual purpose item for any gift. One purpose of course would be to add a little decoration to the gift that you are giving, and the other purpose would be to give them the cookie cutter as an actual gift that they can use. If you don’t have a lot of them at home already, you could always go out and purchase some for the simple purpose of including them as a decoration with the gifts that you present to others.

The angel cookie cutter could also be used as a template in artwork that either you or your kids create. If you have a young child who is just starting to learn about drawing different things, then perhaps the angel could be one thing that he or she learns how to draw by tracing around it.  You could also use this item as a template in the artwork that is done around your home.  Perhaps you want to decorate a bathroom or guest bedroom with an angel theme. You could use the angel cookie cutter to create a nice border or accent decoration on the walls of whatever room you choose.

Your angel cookie cutter doesn’t have to waste space in your kitchen drawers.  Instead, put it to good use for other purposes until you actually have to use it in the baking process.  You might find that it can add a very nice decorative appeal to your kitchen, or could serve other purposes that you hadn’t even imagined.

Everything You Need To Know About the Christmas Cookie Cutter

Christmas is a very popular time of the year that brings out many different traditions including the tradition of making cookies with the use of Christmas cookie cutter. One of the traditions that is enjoyed by many is the tradition of gathering together to make Christmas cookies for the entire family. Kitchens are filled with laughter and joy as cookie baking activities go on for hours and hours.

The Christmas cookie cutter can take on a number of different shapes and forms, and they can also be made from a number of different materials. You probably can name some of the more famous characters of the Christmas holiday, and these characters are what you often see cookie cutters being shaped into.  Santa Claus, Frosty The Snowman, Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, Christmas trees, stars, snowflakes, candy canes, and presents are all objects of this spectacular holiday that you will often find as the focus of the Christmas cookie cutter shape.  Every family has their own Christmas traditions, and their favorite characters when it comes to the different Christmas tales that you hear about, so which ones are used to in the cookie making process will vary from family to family.

Christmas cookie cutters are most commonly made from either plastic or metal.  Plastic is usually used in the items that are generally only going to be used in the baking process because they are cheaper to make, and a large amount of production of these items is required because they become very popular during the holiday season. In order to mass produce them in a more cost effective manner, the cheapest material has to be used, which in most cases is plastic.

Different types of metal can be used when making the Christmas cookie cutter.  Some of the types of metal that are more commonly used are metal, tin, and copper.  Copper is one of the more popular metals desired when cookie cutters are purchased strictly for decoration.  There is just something about the shiny copper look that seems to add a little extra touch of class to any home decoration.

The Christmas cookie cutter doesn’t necessarily have to be used in the process of making cookies.  It can actually be used for a number of other purposes as well.  One great way that you can use this item is to add a little extra décor to any gifts that you give out during the holiday season.  It’s easy to incorporate any one of the different Christmas symbols into your gift wrapping presentation. Simply wrap your present that you are going to give someone, tie a string style bow around it, and then type a

Christmas cookie cutter or two into the bow. You can use matching colors or you could use one red and one green to get both of the primary Christmas colors, whatever you prefer.  The point is when you are done you will have a nicely decorated present that is well accented with a Christmas cookie cutter or two that your gift receiver can use for themselves.

Creative Uses For Your Heart Cookie Cutters
[info]brettbrock1896

heart cookie cutter

Aside from making heart shaped cookies, is there anything that you can use heart cookie cutters for so that they aren’t lying around in your cupboards taking up space that could be used for other items? The truth is there are a number of things that you could do with these heart shaped tools that you rarely use, and they don’t have to take up space in your kitchen if you don’t want them to.  Here are some things that you can do with heart cookie cutters in order to put them to good use.

During the Valentine’s Day holiday, you will most likely find heart cookie cutters being used for what they are intended to be used for, and that is making cookies.  After that, however, you might find them being used for other purposes.

You might consider using heart cookie cutters as a decoration in your home.  They can be used just about anywhere provided that the shape matches the overall theme of the room that they’re being used in.  If you are fortunate enough to have the metal ones on hand, then you’re in luck because these make great decorative pieces, far more decorative than others that are made out of the plastic material.  You can add them to your window sills, wall shelves, curio cabinets, near picture frames of a loving couple together, or just about any where else you can think of.

Heart cookie cutters could also be used in the gift giving process.  If you are giving a gift to someone that you know enjoys cooking a lot, then you could include this item in the gift that you are giving them.  It would sort of be a way of giving them a little extra bonus gift that they can use whenever they want.  One great way to accent a present would be to tie the cookie cutter into the bow that wraps around the present.  Also, if you’re simply giving them a card and not an actual gift, you could tie the cookie cutter around the card as well. This would add a little bit more of a decorative look to the card.

You could also use the heart cookie cutters in a number of artwork activities as well. Since they are formed perfectly into the shape of a heart, you could use them as a template for any paintings that you might be working on which require the heart shape.  If you have any kids that enjoy drawing or painting, they too might enjoy the use that they get out of them since they would be able to create heart shaped drawings by tracing around them.  Perhaps you might want to create your own Valentine’s day cards that you could give out to friends and family.  The heart shape would be very appropriate in this situation and you would be able to use it as a template for the design of your card.

Instead of having your heart cookie cutters sit around in your drawers until the next Valentine’s day baking spree comes around, put them to good use either in the decoration of your home, the decoration of a gift that you give to someone, or the artwork that you or kids are working on.

[info]brettbrock1896

Cookie cutters are a used around the world for a number of different activities including baking, artwork, decoration, and perhaps just about anything else that you would find them useful for. There are many different shapes and sizes created for different purposes and the primary reason that they are created is for creating cookies in shapes that correlate with the different holidays that occur throughout the year.

Cookie cutters can be made of different materials and two of the main materials that the items in today's market are made of include metal and plastic. Metal is used in the more expensive cookie cutters and is often regarded as the higher quality choice. Plastic is also a very popular material to use because it is cheap and effective to use when you need to mass produce something, which is typically the case around the holidays that occur throughout the year. These are the times when cookie cutters are used the most. Metal items can be used in the process of baking cookies, but sometimes they are used for decorating the home rather than baking. Polished copper gives off a wonderful glow that can help add an antique look and feel to your kitchen which is perfect if you enjoy collecting antiques.

You can find a cookie cutter for sale for just about any purpose you can think of. Typically though you will find that they are created for the holidays so you'll find Christmas cookie cutters, Easter cookie cutters, Halloween cookie cutters, and others being sold during their respective times during the year. The shapes being sold will be the shapes that you find associated with those holidays, so for Christmas you'll find Santa Clause, Rudolph, Frosty, and many other characters available. There will also be a number of Christmas shapes available including Christmas trees, stars, candy canes, presents, bells, and more. When it comes to Easter cookie cutters you may only see the Easter bunny and egg shapes available.

Halloween also has a number of shapes and creatures to offer for cookie cutter designs including ghosts, bats, pumpkins, tombstones, witches, and just about any other scary object that you can think of.
Not only can cookie cutters be used to create cookies that are shaped like the popular characters and symbols of the holidays, but they can also be used for a number of different purposes. You can use them in artwork, home decorating, gift giving, or even educational activities.

Chances are your children love to draw, and in many cases they enjoy tracing around just about any object that they can get their hands on. You could give them the cookie cutters that you rarely use so that they can use them as objects that they can trace and then color in.

You could also incorporate cookie cutters into your home decoration efforts during the holiday seasons, or add them as a wrapping decoration that you use to decorate a gift that you are presenting to someone.
Schools will often times use cookie cutters in certain educational activities. One example would take place in the home economics classroom where baking activities might take place. One activity might involve the class baking cookies that are a certain shape.

Another activity might occur in art class where the students have to use cookie cutters to incorporate certain shapes or designs into their art project.
The opportunities for using cookie cutters is virtually endless so next time you go to throw out those items that you hardly ever use, hold onto them because they could come in handy some day.

Cow Cookie Cutter - Not Just A Cookie Cutter Anymore!
[info]brettbrock1896

When you think about a cow cookie cutter you probably don't think much else of it other than the fact that it can help you create cookies that look like cows. The fact is that this item can be used for much more than just helping you make cookies. Here are some great ideas about how you can use the cow cookie cutter for purposes that don't always involve baking.

Home Decoration

Cow cookie cutters can be made in a number of different materials including metal and plastic. One of best looking metals that they can be made out of is copper. Not only does it look great, but it makes for a great looking home decoration material as well. If you have a number of these laying around in your kitchen just waiting to be used, why don't you pull them out and use them as a decoration? You can stand them up on a shelf on your kitchen wall, or string a few of them up and hang them on your wall to give your home a little bit more of that country look and feel.

Gift Giving

If it seems like you've got a cow cookie cutter for just about everyone in the family, then you could probably afford to give a few away here and there. After all, how many do you really need if you only plan on using them for baking? Why not give a few away as a accent gift with a Christmas present to some of your loved ones. If you've got a bow to tie around a gift, simply slip one of these into the bow before you tie it off so it hangs on the gift almost like another decoration. It would make a great looking addition to the gift you are giving.

Use Them In Artwork

The cow cookie cutter doesn't have to be used for making cookies. Instead, why not use it as a tool for artwork, or for decorating around the house? Perhaps you have a child that would absolutely love to have cows painted on his or her wall. You could use the cutter as a template to help you create a border of cows that goes around your child's room. Perhaps you have a child who is a young aspiring artist and wants to learn how to draw different objects or animals. One animal that they could learn to draw is the cow. All that they would need to do is trace around it.

The cow cookie cutter can be used for a number of purposes and doesn't have to be used strictly in the cooking sense. It can become a wonderful home decoration, a tool for a young artist, or a bonus gift for a loved one or friend during the Christmas season. The next time you find one sitting around in a drawer somewhere in your kitchen, don't be afraid to take it out and use your imagination and creativity to put it to use in some other form or fashion.

Holiday Figurines from the Josef Collection
[info]brettbrock1896
New collectors of Josef Originals quickly realize when the Christmas holidays come around that the collection includes some fantastic holiday pieces. Complete your Christmas décor with some of the Christmas themed figurines from the Josef collection such as the Christmas Belle with Muff, or the Christmas angel figurines. There are also several Christmas themed animal figurines from the Josef Originals collection that you may want to display during the season.
You may be surprised by all of the online opportunities to obtain more Josef Originals figurines for your collection, especially during the holidays. If you think you might be shopping online for Christmas themed figurines, consider the following:

In many parts of the country, there are still garage sales and flea markets during the Christmas season. Usually, merchants like to display a lot of Christmas décor during this time so you may get lucky and find one or more of the holiday figurines from Josef Originals. Thrift stores are also a good place to look because they get donations all the time from people who give things away and sometimes, when a loved one dies, there will be an entire household full of items donated to one of the thrift stores that benefit the community.

If you get lucky and are able to find any of the Josef holiday figurines at one of the above mentioned places, you will most likely get a great deal on it. However, if you don't have a lot of time to spend searching out flea markets and such, you can go straight to an online retailer or auction house to find your collectibles. Before you make any online deals, though, make sure you have a reference book handy that lists all of the Josef collectibles. This will ensure you only buy authentic figurines and not fakes.

If your budget allows and you're so inclined, you can most likely find some of the rarer Josef Originals online. Do realize, though, that because they are rare, they may be a bit pricey. The best thing to do is to set a budget before you begin shopping and resolve to stick to it.

Think seriously about your budget before you begin shopping because it is just too easy to get carried away. New collectors can have a field day in a matter of minutes online and you don't want to dampen your holiday spirit by spending too much, even if they are lovely figurines! The good news is that you'll always be able to find the holiday figurines created by Josef Originals as they are very popular figurines. Even if you can only add to your collection by one item per holiday season, it will still be a joyous time. Have fun as you start or add to your Josef holiday figurine collection.

Who is Muriel Joseph George?
[info]brettbrock1896
People who collect art often do so because they are familiar with an artist's work and like what they see. If you're going to start a Josef Originals collection, it might be nice for you to know something about the person behind the collection, Muriel Joseph George. A jewelry designer from California, Muriel once used Lucite to make her jewelry. She named her company "Muriel of California."

During the second World War, people could not buy Lucite. Instead of letting that put her out of business, Muriel started crafting her jewelry out of ceramics and before long was creating figurines. Having a special affection for animals and children, she started molding her figurines after them. She also created angels and various other types of figurines.
After the war, Muriel began creating pottery in her home's basement. She then ordered labels for her special brand of figurines. A potential crisis occurred when Muriel received the labels, which had arrived misspelled with the name of Josef instead of Joseph; however, Muriel decided to use them anyway, which gave birth to Josef Originals.

However, the Japanese, Muriel learned, were creating and selling their own versions of her originals in the 1950s. This concerned the artist greatly as she didn't want people to think the inferior versions were, in fact, Josef Originals. She countered by making intricately detailed pieces, believing the intricacies of her newer pieces would be too difficult to copy. The problem with this solution, however, was that as the detail grew, so did the prices, meaning the average person could no longer afford them.

It was in the mid 1950s that Muriel met a man named George Good, who convinced her it would be best if her figurines were produced in Japan. The two soon went into business together and the company was renamed. Josef Originals became the George-Good Corporation. Wanting to oversee the manufacture of her figurines, Muriel went to Japan. Upon finding that the manufacture of her figurines met with her approval, she returned home, where she created even more designs. Soon, her art found its way back into the marketplace.

George Good bought Muriel's share of the corporation after she retired in the 1980s. Applause, Inc. bought the company from Good in 1985 and although they have not manufactured new pieces using the Josef Originals brand, they do have a line that copies Muriel's original pieces.

Those looking for Muriel's first pieces can identify them by the marking "M.J. George." Later pieces are marked by the name "Josef Originals," along with a "C" on the bottom. While there will be a sticker labeled "Japan," remember that Muriel chose to have her later pieces manufactured in Japan. Serious collectors may also benefit from a guide book, which shows pictures of the originals that Muriel created. Although it can be difficult for new collectors to identify authentic originals, seasoned collectors have learned how to spot an original from a fake.

Why are Figurines so Special?
[info]brettbrock1896
Why are people so drawn to the miniature likenesses of animals, people, buildings, and even the places that figurines depict? What is it that makes them so special? Figurines have been traced back to ancient civilizations, when they were made out of stone. No one is really sure what prompted people to start creating figurines; perhaps the art simply evolved from other forms of art and communication, such as cave drawings.

In many cultures, over the years, figurines have represented gods in spiritual rites and ceremonies. Some figurines had exclusive meaning, such as presenting a female with a figurine of a pregnant Venus was thought to bring the woman success in conceiving and bearing children. In fact, the majority of figurines depict females. Not surprisingly, women, far more so than men, are drawn to collect figurines.

More recent history notes that figurines are considered artwork, which is often placed upon a shelf or enclosed in a display cabinet to be looked upon and admired. Figurines also have found their way into games; such as the figurines depicted in the game of monopoly. Chess pieces are also crafted using figurines. Modern figurines are created using a variety of materials such as glass, wood, plastic, and porcelain. While most figurines serve as miniatures of something much larger, you can find them in a variety of sizes and shapes.
Figurines make wonderful gifts for any occasion and there are many people who collect them.

Collecting figurines has become easier and even more popular since the Internet made online shopping possible. Instead of poring over countless flea markets, antique stores, estate sales, and the like, collectors are able to find and purchase the pieces they are searching for almost instantly, and with much less effort. In fact, people who might not otherwise run across a Josef Originals collectible now have the ability to find just the piece they are looking for quickly and conveniently.

If you have considered collecting Josef figurines and want to purchase them online, here are some tips you may find useful. While you have the entirety of the Internet at your fingertips, serious collectors, and even those who are just beginning, find that guide books that list the pieces of a particular collection are an invaluable asset to have. This way, you can closely study the figurines and get to know which ones are a part of which collection. Furthermore, you can also study the books to get a feel for what the original pieces look like, as well as get to know how they are valued. Investing in a book of this kind can help you to weed out the wheat from the chaff when you start your collection.
